How we hand over your software.

You own what we build. This is what that means in practice, and what you receive when a project is delivered.

What you receive

  1. The source codeThe complete repository, with its full history, in an account you control. Not a zip file sent at the end.
  2. Access to the infrastructureAdministrator access to the servers, domains and accounts the software runs on, in your name.
  3. Your dataA full export of your data in an open format, such as SQL or CSV, and the right to ask for a fresh export at any time.
  4. DocumentationHow to run, update and back up the software, and how it is put together, written for the next engineer, not for us.
  5. Keys and passwordsAPI keys and passwords are passed over through a password manager and then replaced, so nobody keeps access they should not have.
  6. Open-source componentsA list of the open-source components used and their licences, so you know what you are building on.
  7. A handover sessionA walkthrough with you or your next developer, recorded if you wish.

The written agreement for each project sets out exactly what is transferred. This page describes our standard approach.

If you would rather not run it yourself

We can host and maintain the software for a monthly fee, in a Canadian data centre or on a server you own. That arrangement can end at any time, and the same handover applies: you take everything with you.
